In the world of Death Mesa and the ODGS, the term Race is deliberately non-mechanical and socially variable. Rather than a strict category, Race is a shifting label informed by both Cultural Heritage and Genetic Heritage. These two factors shape a character’s upbringing, environment, and physiology — but do not define them in absolute terms.
For example, a Gnome might look at all Humans and see one "race," while a Human from a southern agrarian commune might insist they are a different "race" entirely from the northern Metro elite. The term Race exists more as a colloquial shorthand or social construct than a game-defined rule. Mechanically, Culture and Genetics provide more meaningful character grounding.
